The newest expansion in Destiny’s supposed ten year long run is Rise of Iron, taking players to Old Russia back on Earth. You explore a vast new area called the Plaguelands under the command of Lord Saladin to fight a new faction of Fallen Devils known as the Splicers, (not to be confused with Bioshock’s splicers), and discover the mystery behind the Iron Lords. You will also be introduced to a whole slew of all new weapons, armor, and gear as well as a new six-player co-op Raid. Pre-ordering the game grants you the Iron Gjallarhorn in black and silver.
The Plaguelands is described as an area that had been quarantined and left alone for centuries until the Devil Splicers broke through the wall. The Splicers found reserves of technology containing almost unlimited power—SIVA—and are using it to their advantage to transform the region to their desires. The Devil Splicers themselves are part flesh and part machine from the Fallen House the House of Devils. Using the power of SIVA, they plans to become the machine Gods that other machines would worship.
Iron Lords are the described as being there before the City and before the Vanguards; sworn to defend humanity and rebuilding a lost civilization. Before being destroyed, the Iron Lords thrived on the mountain fortress of Felwinter Peak battling the Darkness and protecting those that survived the Collapse. Lord Saladin, being the last Iron Lord, leads and commands you to help fight for the greater good because deep down, he knows that whatever it was that destroyed the Iron Lords is bound to return with a vengeance.
Alongside the aforementioned extras, a few more including a maximum light increase, new strike, and new Crucible Mode and Maps will be available on release. It has also been confirmed that the DLC will only be available on Xbox One and PS4 while legacy console players will be compensated in some way that has still yet been said.
Destiny: Rise of Iron will be available on September 20 for Xbox One and PS4.
